Hey guys,
I'm glad to bring today's newsletter, if you missed last week's then you can access the archives here: http://clinify.substack.com
Today, we'll be talking a bit about the importance of LinkedIn and two amazing websites that you SHOULD be visiting often.
1. Why is LinkedIn important to me?
Even if you're a student or a freelancer, LinkedIn is a gold mine. The content you consume on social media is what defines your personality and by following the right people on LinkedIn, you'll be exposed a lot of industry insights. Few people that I follow on LinkedIn are:
-Gary Vaynerchuck, Chairman of Vayner Media
-Richard Branson | Founder, Virgin Group
-David Sable | Chairman, VMLY&R
-Anirudh Malpani | Malpani Ventures
Also, there is something called "LinkedIn groups" and there are groups for almost every industry like "web-development", "graphic designing", "content writing" and almost every other skill out there. Joining these groups helps you interact with like-minded people and also opens up access to opportunities. LinkedIn groups are way more credible than Facebook groups and also the fact that you can view their profile makes things very transparent.
2. What is LinkedIn DM?
So on LinkedIn every time you connect with someone, you'll have an option to directly message your prospect and they have incredible open rates. This way you can try contacting company or startup heads and directly talk to them about your services. Moreover, once you connect with someone, you'll have access to their email ID on their profile. You can even try cold-emailing in that case.
Here's a cold-emailing guide from Harvard Business Review: https://hbr.org/2016/09/a-guide-to-cold-emailing
3. Engaging with potential client's content
Remember that your clients are humans and emotions play an important role in making a decision. If you're someone with good charisma and if the client likes your personality then the chances of them giving you the project increases. You need to develop a good relationship with your potential client. In the world of social media, you can do that by liking, commenting or having a casual discussion with the client. Find out if your potential client likes football or cricket and just try to strike a conversation. It shouldn't seem that you're trying to sell something at all! Just become friends and soon the client would stick to you for the next few years.
What are the websites you were talking about?
1. Angel list: https://angel.co/ It is the world's largest startup community. You can apply for internships at startups, analyse which startups got funding, get a list of startups in a particular industry, know the CXOs of a particular startup and do a lot of research about companies. This way you'll know whom to approach and which startups might actually need your service.
2. Glassdoor: https://www.glassdoor.co.in/index.htm It is a platform wherein you can find jobs at growing startups. It also gives reviews about the company and its work culture so if you're someone applying for a job and want to know about the work environment and reviews there then this is the perfect place to be in.
I have a lot of free time. What to do?
Here are my favorite podcasts that I listen to when I'm free:
-Indie hackers podcast [https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast] It's about how people are joing jobs and at the same time running small profitable online side-businesses. They also teach you how to do the same by sharing the founder's journey. It's based out of San Francisco.
-EngageCast [https://webengage.com/resource/podcast/] It has interviews from top marketing executives from companies like Junglee to GradeUp
That's all for this week. Do let us know what you think. Take care.
