Is it possible to make mobile apps without coding?
Last week my friends and I launched an app called bitsat.ml, the best part was that we made the entire app without writing a single line of code or spending a single dollar.
This is how we did it
We made the app using https://www.glideapps.com/. It’s a no-code app builder which connects with your Google sheet and gives you a drag and drop interface to make beautiful apps. Obviously, you cannot have really complex functionalities but in our case we wanted to display video lectures and it did the job! It also has a generous free tier plan.
Then I went to freenom.com and bought a freedomain called bitsat.ml and redirected it to my glideapp. What that means is everytime someone visits bitsat.ml, it’ll lead them to my app
What are browser apps?
The app that we made is called a browser app. It’s essentially a website that looks and feels like an app. There’s no need to download anything. You simple click on “add to homescreen“ and you’ll see a beautiful app icon on your phone, without ever needing to go to PlayStore and download anything. A lot of top companies like JioMart are adopting this strategy.
Udemy courses
Udemy is one of my favorite platforms. I’ll tell you a story. A few weeks back Kenan and I started doing some NodeJs courses on Udemy. I finished the course but did not work on a lot of personal projects, Kenan on the other hand finished the course and made a ton of personal projects to practise the skill he learnt. Today, Kenan has built a messaging platform for Huloq that he’s pitching to some of the largest companies in India.
My point is, simply watching courses won’t work until you work on a project. Here are few courses that I’ve taken in the past:
The complete JavaScript Course: https://www.udemy.com/share/101WeYBUofdl1XRHg=/
The complete React developer course: https://www.udemy.com/share/101WmYBUofdl1XRHg=/
Complete NodeJS course: https://www.udemy.com/share/101WpABUofdl1XRHg=/
These are just JavaScript courses. I’ll recommend other ones in the coming newsletters.
How to make a portfolio?
If you’re a content writer, graphic designer or a web-developer, a portfolio is the only way to show your work.
Here are few things you can try out:
Checkout these free portfolio makers: https://blog.prototypr.io/top-10-free-online-portfolio-websites-to-create-perfect-ux-ui-design-portfolios-4406b34f4ce?gi=7ef57853f95d
Attach all the work, certificates, testimonials or any sort of validation on the portfolio
This way when you get on a video call or send them a message, it’s easier to explain what you’ve done. Actions speaker louder than words. Your work should speak for itself.
That’s all for this week guys. See you next week.
Here’s the task of the week: Make a simple app using glideapps.com that displays Covid-19 cases in India
